Car Boot Sales

*** October Newsflash:  The car boot sales will be closed for winter - watch here for details of when they’re restarting. ***

The sales have been a great success and - except when there has been heavy rain - 40+ cars have been on the site. This is close to the maximum capacity of the area of the car park, but there is now no requirement to prebook.

The last sale for 2011 will be on September 4 from 10 til 1. It is held in the East Lane car park behind the Bull restaurant. Watch out for the posters and banners around the village.  If you would like a space just turn up on the day from 8.30, irrespective of the weather - we are always there! It is only £5 for cars and £10 for vans and buyers go free. For more information please e-mail chair@wheathampstead.org.uk.

WEB has now been managing the monthly car boot sales for three years. We see this as another way of bringing extra visitors and custom into the village and putting us on the map. We believe there are significant benefits for our local businesses - especially those that are able to open on the first Sunday morning of each month when we hold the sales.

Please have a go, have fun and make some cash from your ’surplus stuff’, or come and support us and pick up a bargain.

All proceeds go back into the village via WEB and if you can help to run it please contact chair@wheathampsted.org.uk

WEB input to Village Plan

The Wheathampstead Village Plan, launched in April 2009 at the Annual Parish Meeting, is a very exciting initiative and will address the multitude of issues raised by residents during the Village Survey carried out in 2008.

The single most pressing concern for residents was the plight of our shops and businesses. WEB was heavily involved in analysing the findings and identifying the ways in which our business community can best be helped. The outcome was an action plan comprising 21 action points, covering such areas as:

  • Business rates and rents
  • Marketing local businesses
  • Marketing of the village to outside businesses

Of the 21 actions, 18 either were the responsibility of WEB or required significant input from WEB. When Edition No. 2 of the Village Plan was published in April 2010, 7 of the 18 actions had been fully completed and the rest were ongoing, and since then we have been working hard on the remaining issues.

This is a major project, but the benefits for Wheathampstead will be immense. If you have any good ideas, or would like to get involved in making it happen, please contact David Johnston: chair@wheathampstead.org.uk
